Community Engagement
In addition to the core campus-hosted programs described above, RLE faculty, postdocs, and students take an active role in supporting local K-12 classrooms and teachers. They do this by conducting workshops and classroom demonstrations in local area schools and providing laboratory demonstrations at MIT. Research groups also deliver lectures to science teachers attending MIT’s Science and Engineering Program for Teachers, along with high school students who partake in the MIT Research Science Institute held on campus each June.
Researchers in RLE also supply substantial engineering and science content for special public events like those organized by the MIT Museum and events such as the citywide Cambridge Science Festival. The activities typically draw 800 to 1000 participants each year.
Please contact us if you are interested in working together to participate in an existing program or to create a new program.
