How to use the lab
- Use of the lab and its tools requires an orientation by Dr. Nagle
-
- Please fill out the online Lab User Intake Form
- Then schedule an engagement session in the lab with Dr. Nagle, to be sure that I am not busy with another engagement
- The initial engagement will include a basic safety orientation
- You can stop by anytime during Open Hours, but I might be busy with another user (best to schedule me)
-
- To Schedule training on the equipment that you want to use, you’ll need to:
-
- Complete Step 1 above
- Sign up for MIT Google Workspace using your MIT email if you’ve not already done so
- Click “Login” and then “Login with Touchstone.”
- Ask me to add your email to the calendar for the tool you are interested in
- Then reserve the tool AND schedule a training session with Dr. Nagle before you can start your own work
- Training session links are on the tools webpages such as for the Stratasys J5
- Once you are trained on a tool you can use it during Open Hours
- For equipment use outside Open Hours, additional safety training is required
-
- Let’s talk!
-
- What do you want to do?
- How can the lab help?
- Check our Dr. Nagle’s technical portfolio
- Learn what capabilities the lab has now
- Learn what software the lab provides access to
- Hear about planned capabilities
- Learn about useful stuff elsewhere — hardware, software, services, advice, inspiration — both on and off campus
-
- Review the Rodgers Lab safety requirements
-
- The initial orientation will allow you to use many resources in Rodgers
- For certain equipment such as the fume hood, Dr. Nagle will review your pre-existing MIT training
-
- If you’re here about the 26-065 shop, then
-
- First, if you haven’t yet done so, please complete the Lab user form, and then

Connect!
Please also connect via Slack to inquire about the lab, to discuss an issue you have, or to connect remotely for any reason. There is a growing community of users across RLE, and beyond.
Once on Slack, you are encouraged to click on Channels:Manage:Browse channels to find more channels of interest to you. For example, most pieces of equipment have their own channel and people who use those tools could help you if Dr. Nagle is not available.
