A toolbox for innovative photonic integrated circuit design and layout
Much of the value of a photonic integrated circuit (PIC) lies in its design and layout, which is in turn enabled by sophisticated software. In this talk Dr. McComber will present the Luceda IPKISS platform for PIC design, including examples and demonstrations from cutting-edge technologies such as optical phased arrays and programmable photonic circuits.

About the presenters:

Dr. Kevin McComber (MIT ’05, PhD ’11) is co-founder and CEO of Spark Photonics as well as co-founder and executive director of the Spark Foundation. His work with the foundation was recently featured in the MIT News article Teaching students about photonics to build up the US workforce.

Dr. Matthew Delaney, an application engineer from Luceda Photonics who holds a PhD in integrated photonics from Southampton University where he studied phase change materials for photonic switching.

Spark Photonics is a PIC design enablement company with MIT roots, based near Cambridge; Spark is also the North American distribution and support partner for Luceda Photonics.

Luceda Photonics is a leading provider of PIC design software and associated services; the Luceda Photonics Design Platform enables users to leverage the Python programming language to design, simulate, and lay out PICs to quickly achieve their desired results. Luceda’s software is compatible with over 30 process design kits (PDKs) across more than 20 photonics foundries worldwide, enabling a wide range of PIC-based applications in a variety of material platforms.
